Over the years, consumers have demanded two things from their gadgets: that they be smaller, and that they be more flexible. While companies such as LG are already developing things like flexible e-newspapers, Samsung is looking to move ahead of the pack by developing a kinetic, bendable, OLED phone that can fold over without any risk of cracking the screen or damaging the components within.

Watery Mars

Spirit, the poor Mars Rover that's been stuck in Martian sand since last year, has actually contributed to a pretty fantastic discovery in its sedentary months: the evidence of subsurface water on Mars.

The Spirit Rover settled in and conducted some in-depth tests on the soil immediately surrounding it. Those tests found varied composition in the layers of soil underneath the Rover, with generally insoluble materials appearing near the surface and more soluble ones being found deeper down. This is leading scientists to hypothesize that water, perhaps in the form of frost or melted snow, has seeped down into the Martian ground recently and repeatedly.

The Spirit is currently in a low-power hibernation mode as he endures winter, and we'll have to wait until March, when his solar panels will be in position to collect sun, to see if he wakes up. [NASA]

Clearwire just launched Rover, a no-contract service that offers unlimited WiMax goodness for $5 a day, $20 a week, or $50 a month, along with two new WiMax modems. Yep, get ready to start topping up your 4G.

The service is launching in all of Clearwire's WiMax markets with two modems: a $99 USB stick called, um, the Rover Stick, and a $150 puck called, uh, the Rover Puck. The latter of the two can service as a WiMax hotspot for up to eight devices�it has Wi-Fi b/g/n and can simultaneously run 2 SSIDs�though neither have any 3G connectivity.

Cellphone battery dead? No problem: Just borrow a charger from a friend. Oh, wait � you can�t, because your friend doesn�t have the same phone as you, and his charger won�t work with your phone. That annoyance will end next year, for Europeans at least. Thanks to the efforts of the European Commission, most cellphones sold in Europe will have a one-size-fits-all charger starting in 2011. So far, 10 major cellphone makers, including Apple, Motorola, Samsung and Research In Motion, have signed on to the agreement.
